This was our official entry for Project Direct 2009, a YouTube/Sundance online film competition, featuring the stories of Ceil, Dorothy, and Bill!
The requirements for the film were that we had to include a red telephone and 2 of 25 other objects, among which of note were thick-rimmed glasses, an orange thong, a wedding dress, a severed ear, and a beehive hairdo. We didn’t make the top 10, but we know one thing is likely: our entry was the only documentary!
A huge appreciation and thank you goes out to Ceil, Dorothy (my grandmother!), and Bill. They were very open, helpful, amenable, and wonderful to work with on this short project, and we had a lot of fun making it with them! When you go to the video, there’s a link just underneath it on the right side to “watch in HD”, so make sure you do that! This is an excellent sample of the power of our camera.
And by the way, this is not at all the style in which we’ve shot the rest of the footage for our actual feature film, but this gives you a good idea as to how we were thinking of shooting the film so as to add kinetic energy to otherwise physically stagnant content, as we discussed in our post a few days ago, Realizations As We Approach Month 2 of Production. I recommend it as a good read!
The three stories are also available separately on our Life’s Waltz YouTube Channel, and we’ll post them here soon.
Enjoy!
